Carmen Parish.

TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR MAINTENANCE WORKS

The parish of Our Lady of Carmen, built in 1630 and located on a hill overlooking the traditional neighborhood of La Barrera, is a clear example of the architectural evolution from Mannerism to Baroque, with a notable influence of Herrerian style in the architecture of the first half of the 17th century. Its plan is in the shape of a Latin cross with interconnected side chapels, and over its transept rises a semi-spherical dome decorated with frescoes featuring phytomorphic motifs and a large central rosette, all supported by pendentives adorned with the heraldic emblems of the houses of Comares and Segorbe y Cardona. Inside, the main altarpiece stands out, considered contemporary to the church's facade, with decorative elements of an Escurialense style repeated in its structure. Its architecture includes an important collection of paintings, some of which show a notable influence of Zurbarán, possibly attributed to Bartolomé de Ayala.
